Last Exile: Fam, The Silver Wing Part 01

RONAN DALY PEERS INTO THE WORLD OF LAST EXILE: FAM THE SILVER WING (PART 1), THE FIRST ELEVEN EPISODES OF KOICHI CHIGIRA'S (ALSO WELL KNOWN FOR HIS WORK ON FULL METAL PANIC) THIRD LAST EXILE ANIME SERIES.

The original series was set in the far future, on the planet Prester, a world which many of Earth's inhabitants fled to in order to escape the chaos and danger of Earth at the time. The third series, Fam the Silver Wing takes place further in the future, when many of Prester's inhabitants have returned to Earth and are seen by many of those who remained as invaders with no claim to the land that their ancestors abandoned. As such, tension abounds and attempts to reconcile are regularly hampered by radicals on both sides. As the series starts, none of this is of grand concern to Fam Fan Fan (portrayed in Japanese by K-On's Aki Toyosaki and in English by Fairy Tail's Jad Saxton ), a fifteen year old sky pirate pilot or her best friend and navigator, Giselle Collette ( voiced by Beelzebub's Aoi Yuki in Japanese and Deadman Wonderland's Leah Clark in English). The pair spend their days capturing airships and soaring through the clouds with little care until through some profound chance, they find themselves in the highly profitable position of being the only hope of safety for the royal family of Turan, one kingdom of the returning Prester inhabitants. The girls adopt a rather sullen and irate Princess Millia Turan (voiced by Deadman Wonderland OVA's Ai Kayano in Japanese and Darker Than Black's Carrie Savage in English) into their midst and set about gathering allies to restore peace to all the peoples of Earth.

Black Butler Review (English)

Remember a couple weeks back, in my Night Raid 1931 review, when I mentioned I hadn't seen Black Butler yet? Guess who finally watched decided to watch it?

Black Butler is an Action/Fantasy/Comedy series based on the ongoing manga by Yana Toboso and Square Enix, with Yen Press as the North American licensor. The 24 episode series, Black Butler, comes from A-1 Pictures and director Toshiya Shinohara for the Fall of 2008. It is currently licensed by FUNimation Entertainment (US), Manga Entertainment (UK), and Madman Entertainment (AUS). An additional 12 episodes and 6 OVAs of the series under the name Black Butler II were released over the course of a year beginning in the Summer of 2010. A-1 Pictures and director Hirofumi Ogura are masterminds behind this series. Black Butler II is licensed by the previously mentioned companies. The OVA episodes will not be covered in this review.

The insipidity of Kyoto Animation

I've always had a love/hate relationship with KyoAni. After the idol episode of Kyoukai no Kanata, I realized I finally had it with them.

What anime fan doesn't know about KyoAni or its influence on anime or the collective fandom? My entry sums everything up, but to those who haven't read it or somehow don't know about KyoAni's tendencies:

Shinobi Life (manga, vol. 1) by Shoko Conami

The cover art of the first volume of Shinobi Life caught my eye a while back. I think I've only ever stumbled across one review of it, which basically said "this was okay." Since I was going to be getting it via a library, I figured that "okay" was good enough.

I think I was able to check out the first three volumes, although the only one I ended up reading was volume 1.

Recommended Anime of October 2013

Late post. A month has passed and things are a mess at this moment. Guess all we need is a little bit more patience and consistency, and keep on the move. Back to the topic. How do you like the new series this season so far? Do enjoy most of them and the downside is we don't really have that much time to watch them all. Some of us might simply start to watch the entire series after all the episodes are aired and that's also what I do from time to time. If you haven't checked out our full list of , may be it's time. Ok, let's just jump to the topic today.

Bome Collection Volume 12: Full Metal Panic Kaname & Theresa Figure Two Pack

Kaiyodo strikes again with their twelfth Mon-sieur Bomfigure which features two heroines from Full Metal Panic! The blue-haired, brown-eyed gal is Chidori Kaname, an exuberant student at Jindai High School who is infused with the power of "The Whispered." With her unusual power, Chidori is sort of like a Gundam newtype where she operates mecha with skill and deft handling. That makes her a target of nefarious forces who want her power for their own purposes. Enter MITHRIL, a special anti-terrorist group which is helmed by the pastel blue-haired Theresa Testarossa. The destinies of these two girls are intertwined in the anime series as well as Mon-sieur Bom 's upcoming figure set, which includes both warriors in a single blister pack! Chidori measures 6tall, while Theresa measures 4tall! Blister card packaging.

Best Anime Series of 2002

I'm really interested to look at 2002 because the year contains one of my favourite series (Azumanga Daioh) and the series that came out on top on the decade list I made (Haibane Renmei). I want to know how they actually rank against other series and am rooting that they do well! Below are a list of the top 10 series from this year based on the various Western source. I have also interested a few interesting findings from this research and an initial comparison with the 2ch list, which produce markedly different results.10. CHEEKY ANGEL ()

Baka to Test

The main characters of class F (Image taken from: deviantart.net)

As promised, I have a review for Baka to Test today. Baka to Test is very much a comedic anime with a little mix of romance, but very, very heavily lies on its comedy. The anime is about a school that separates classes by their grade level according to a test they give out. For example, all the A students are in class A, B students in class B, and so on. The story primarily follows class F and their struggles to try and work their way up in the class ladder. Each and every student at the school has a summoned being that can fight for them. As such, the way classes could move up the class ladder was by challenging and defeating the class above them. If the lower class wins, then they move up to the upper classroom while the loser moves down to the winner's former classroom. Each classroom has from high grade (class A) to low grade (class F) equipment for a classroom in general, thus, the higher one moved, the more advantage they had in their studies or just more comfort being in their classroom.

Fall 2013 Recommendations

After , this fall season that follows feels really stable and full of a lot of smart, touching, comedic and action-packed series that manage to cover every possible genre with something worthwhile.I like to keep my watch list around ten or so and after viewing the first episode of everything that's airing this season I expected that assembling this list into a reasonable number was going to be much more difficult than it actually turned out to be.With two solid years of blogging under my belt and my third year getting started, perhaps I'm finally finding my groove and getting better at determining what's going to impress and what will end up flopping.

Game shows

As you may know, I like game shows. Why else would I do them at cons? So let's talk about game shows at cons, whether certain formats work or not. It'll be a fun post and maybe a long one.

To start off, Greggo is the master of game shows at cons. I'm totally convinced that if Greggo lived in Los Angeles (my former home of 2 months) and had the right connections, he could host a game show on national TV. He is eons better than Drew Carey at The Price Is Right and simply the best at what he does.

IS: Infinite Stratos 2

Adapted from the light novel series by Izuru Yumizuru, the anime returns with more harem silliness and mecha action. While the first season of "IS: Infinite Stratos" is not without fault because it succumbs to the usual pitfalls and issues most franchises in the harem genre suffer from, it was nonetheless a very enjoyable series full of cute girls.

"IS: Infinite Stratos 2" is a fun series to watch when you keep in mind that next to a sci-fi action show about girls doing battle in flying mecha suits, it is at its core a predictable harem series. Its strong suit however is a main cast of lovely girls that are the staple of their character type.

Handsome Anime Guys 2

Owhmaigawd, I haven't posted anything for weeks because I was busy in university. Assignments wouldn't stop coming and sometimes they just pile up. And it's not like you can copy people's work like in secondary, because obviously you can copy other people's design. So yeah, busy busy.

During one of the weekends, I have attended a workshop and last weekend I attended my cousin's wedding. And yeah, I wasn't sure what I should post. Because now I have to post about handsome anime guys for Sandy, a girl who requested it LOL.

Cartoons are for kids, right?

At least so I thought back when I just started high school and had my first encounter with anime. At that time I had grown tired of all the generic western cartoons due to their lack of a grander plot that stretched several episodes. Scooby Doo and the gang always found themselves in some dodgy place, saw something spooky and in one way or another solved the mystery and caught the bad guy pretending to be a monster. But that was it, no connection between episodes, no grand plot or evil mastermind. All the episodes were small standalone cartoons that quickly got quite boring as there was never anything new to them. This is where anime comes in

During a LAN party in at my local high school, I noticed a group of guys, most of them in their late teens or early twenties, watching cartoons on their computers which all seemed to be plastered with stickers of female cartoon characters in skimpy outfits. Some even sported small plush toys on top of them for decoration. Being a young teen with no knowledge whatsoever about anime, this first encounter with this particular community did not exactly leave me with the best of impressions. It was only later, after some intensive matches in Battlefield, that I went over to the "weird nerds" to find out who the opposing players were. During my little chat with them I also asked about the cartoons they were watching. That question changed my life.

Promote Yourself: Chris Patton to attend AniMinneapolis

Chris Patton to attend AniMinneapolis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Promote Yourself: Anime Midwest gets Frenchy and the Punk, and Chris Patton

Anime Midwest gets Frenchy and the Punk, and Chris Patton Minneapolis, MN - September 27, 2013 - Anime Midwest in Chicago is excited to announce two more guests will be joining them in 2014: steampunk musicians Frenchy and the Punk and voice actor Chris Patton. Frenchy at the Punk will be part of Anime Midwest's epic concert series headlined by Steam Powered Giraffe. Convention attendees can see both FnP and Chris Patton in numerous panels, autograph sessions, and events throughout the weekend convention. Chris Patton is an exceptionally well-known voice actor, particularly for roles such as Sousuke Sagara in Full Metal Panic!. He has has been acting professionally for well over fifteen years, with over twelve of those years dedicated to voice acting and anime, including work for ADV Films, FUNimation Entertainment, Sentai Filmworks, and OkraTron 5000. Some of his other more well-known roles are Greed in Fullmetal Alchemist and Brotherhood, Asura in Soul Eater, Akuto Sai in Demon King Daimao, Keima in The World God Only Knows, Ikki in Air Gear, Sho in Guyver, Fakir in Princess Tutu, Nishi in Gantz, and Turles in Dagonball Z: The Tree of Might. Other Anime credits include: Inu x Boku S.S., Phi-Brain - Puzzle of God, Hajime in Ghost Stories, Ayato in RahXephon, Daley Wong in Bubblegum Crisis 2040, Ranmaru in The Wallflower, Eiji in Gravion and Gravion Zwei, Haruka in Tactics, Graham Spector in Baccano!, Komyo Sanzo in Saiyuki, Gintoki in the Gintama movie, Hiroki in The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and tons and tons more! Chris is also a stage performer, a music freak, a horror film nerd, a roller coaster guru, and a huge fan of Sharon Needles, Freddie Mercury, and Aleister Crowley. When trying to picture Frenchy and the Punk, imagine Django Reinhardt, The White Stripes, Johnny Ramone, Siouxsie Sioux and Edith Piaf jamming together at an event hosted by Deepak Chopra. This is what it might sound like. A sultry French-born singer, percussionist and a fiery punk rock guitarist from the golden days of the hardcore scene blended their diverse talents to form Frenchy and the Punk in 2005. The unlikely pairing has since released 6 full-length CDs and have performed all across the U.S. and in Europe. In May 2012, Yahoo Music called them one of the top 25 duos in the US. Their show is a carnival of two that will take you from Paris to CBGBs and back again. A rollicking flapper folk punk cabaret with cleverly crafted songs, Taiko meets Rio de Janeiro pounding drum instrumentals and true DIY attitude. The duo's music, magnetic stage presence, charm and exhilarating performances have attracted a consistently growing and loyal fan base around the world. The new CD Elephant Uproar released in March 2013 highlights the duo's rabid drumming instrumentals. Be sure to check out their earlier releases, the frenzied fun of the Hey Hey Cabaret CD (2012), and their breakthrough 2010 CD release, Happy Madness. Recap: Endless 8 Part 4

I can telegraph this start now. Kyon is watching a ball game he's not interested in. I've reached the halfway point of this, and the channel uploader said that we're free to skip to Part 8. I appreciate the offer, but I intend to see this through. I made it through Bakugan and Code Geass R2, I can make it through this.

It's mentioned that there are cheers on the field. When I started watching this episode; I noticed a person that didn't think this arc was as bad as people said; that they actually enjoyed seeing all the little details in each episode, despite the fact that it was the same exact outline every time. I told the person to talk to their doctor and get the dosage of whatever they're taking raised. I know I'll need to.

2011 Japan Cultural Affairs Department Kyoto Art Festival

Forgive the long title, but that pretty much sums up what this translation is covering. In 2011, the Japanese Cultural Affairs Department held an art festival in Kyoto from October 29 to November 23. On November 3rd, the local animation studio, Kyoto Animation, had three of its employees come to talk and give input about the company. I found a that gave a good transcript of the roundtable and thought people would be interested in a translation of it. (images used w/o permission from the owners)

After a long day of the Munto movie, first two episodes of K-On!!, and the long long Haruhi movie, the roundtable started at 16:30.

Fun Stuff: My Top Ten Favorite Anime Ladies

I may be all about the bishies, but I've definitely got a lot of love for some of the leading ladies of anime, too! As someone who likes to take the feminist perspective when digesting literature, film, etc, the subject of the role women play in anime is of particular interest to me. Several anime titles (especially those geared towards young men) tend to disappoint me with women whose characters are entirely dependent on fanservice and their physical appearance or otherwise dependency on the male lead(s) without any other driving purpose given, but several shows have developed fantastic heroines who have brains, guts, and emotional depths to go along with their looks.

Here are my top ten anime lady crushes and the reasons why I love them:

10. Kaname Chidori (Full Metal Panic)

Full Metal Panic Review

STORY:

Kaname is one of "the Whispered," though she doesn't know this. She also doesn't know a group of very dangerous terrorists are after her. And Sousuke is the hot blooded soldier assigned by an anti-terrorist group to protect the popular high school girl. But piloting a mech is one thing. High school? That's another.

A Peek At Our Animusic Tourney Nominations

PREAMBLE:

So with in full swing and nominations locked in, we at Anime Instrumentality believe it's a good time to release what we thought were good additions to the tournament ranks and the rationale behind our nominations. With so many songs at our fingertips, narrowing our choices down to a paltry fifteen proved to be quite the challenge! But narrow down we did, and so, here's a list of songs we thought were notable and ended up on our list, even if they might not have made the final cut into the tournament proper:

An Okay Way to Spend an Evening

So recently I've been spending a lot of time watching anime series. For the longest time I was against it. Why? I really have no idea. Until college I had seen a little Gundam through my siblings and some Pokemon when my parents weren't home. I got to college and that quickly changed.

My room mate at my first college was appalled that I had never seen any anime. So I decided to humor him and watch one. I selected Gundam SEED because I was familiar with Gundam and SEED itself was touted as one of the best by many. I watched SEED and SEED Destiny in two weeks. I was hooked. I watched mostly Gundam at first, but expanded my horizons over time.

I know, I know, there was no post last week.In my defense, I didn't really watch enough to write about and I was busy as all hell.I did pick the winner for my birthday giveaway, however, so

Anime Wednesdays Confession Corner: Popular Anime I Have Not Watched

I know you're all probably tired of lists since countdown week just past, but a long time ago, I did a confession corner post about the most popular books that I had not read for Literature Tuesdays and I figured it'd be cool to do the same thing with anime. I've seen a little over 30 anime, but even still, there are some really popular, mainstream ones that I have never seen before. I've never finished them, I've never even watched one episode from these series, but everyone talks about it and I see advertisements about the anime all the time. It's enough to pique my interest, but as of right now, this is a list of anime I've never watched:
